About Us
Operation New Hope believes in rebuilding Jacksonville’s communities and its residents one life at a time. We have two primary missions: building affordable housing and rebuilding the lives of ex-offenders.
Founded in 1999 by Jacksonville native Kevin Gay, Operation New Hope was conceived as a model to bring hope to the hopeless. The original goal was to train ex-offenders in the construction trades of building affordable housing. That was expanded into two distinct programs: Ready4Work and ONH Development.
Operation New Hope is actually a win-win-win
- ONH saves taxpayers money through its Ready4Work program since incarceration costs $22,265 a year per individual and R4W’s program costs $4,100 while transforming lives
- Helps drive down criminal activity through both its Ready4Work program and ONH Development home program
- Gives area employers a qualified trained workforce through its Ready4Work program
- Adds to the tax rolls by helping families purchase quality affordable homes in the Springfield and East Jacksonville neighborhoods
- Supports conservation by building Energy Star rated and L.E.E.D. certified homes
